Kate Courtney was last World Champion XCO in Lenzerheide. The American champion now also took her first World Cup victory in Albstadt. We had an exclusive interview with her.

You are the second worldchampion in the Scott Sram mtb team. How is your experience as worldchampion?

It is a great honor to wear the world champion stripes for this season and it is made even more special by getting to share it with my incredible team. The SCOTT SRAM team understands both the magic and the challenges of wearing the rainbow jersey and are there to support me in using it as fuel for my fire and a stepping stone for my future in the sport. I am really grateful to have such experienced teammates and my team manager Thomas Frischknecht to learn from as we work together towards big goals for this season and beyond.

How do you see your challengers? Is the top bigger than years ago?

The elite women’s field is incredibly competitive at the moment. For me, that’s what makes our races so exciting both for fans and for us athletes competing. I hope to see the women’s side of the sport continuing to grow as more and more talented women battle for that top step of the podium. For me, however, the focus is not on the competition but on achieving my own best preparation and performance so I can rise to the challenge on race day.

What are your goals this season and for the future?

This season my focus is on the World Cup series and world championships with an eye towards Tokyo 2020 qualification.

Thank you for this interview!
