This interview is also in English. You find it below.

St.Anne houden. Dat is wat ik hoor van hen. Volgend jaar zal speciaal worden.
  • Is mountainbike populair in Canada?

English version

  • The World Championships mtb in Mt-St.-Anne are next year from 22.August till 1.September. Although we make now an interview with the organizers Patrice Drouin and his friend Yves Blouin. president of the organizing comitee. Since 1991 they organize non-stop the worldcup. It was the first one at the time. Now they organize for the third time the worldchampionships. Previous was it in 1998, in 2010.
  • ORB: Why do you organize now for the third time?
  • Patrice: We do the worldcups every year. And after a certain time it’s good to have a bigger event. The most organizers do this a several tim and then they stop there. After that is that boum!. We go back after the worldcups and we grows. After 2010 we decided to organize in 2019.
  • ORB: Is there any innovation next year?
  • Patrice: We test some things in the worldcup last August. We will announce it in a couple of weeks. It will be the 30 st Worldchampionships XCO, since the creation of the mountainbike under the UCI umbrella. In Durango, it’s started. So it’s special and a celebration next year.
  • ORB: What do you expect of the next world championships?
  • Patrice: St.-Anne is a fantastic area. It isn’t an area where you just implement a event. It’s a classic event since the beginning. You can compare it with Kitzbühl in Alpine ski. We will do a Legend race with Absalon, Schurter, Frischknecht, Brentjens etc. We send all the legends personally an invitation to come. In 29 years we have seen many bikers. Next year it’s a two weekend event. In the first weekend you have the master worldchampionships. We will bring a lot of past athletes.  Many parents of those athelets like Thomas Frischknecht for exemple. The masters race the first weekend and stay and watch and collaborate in the second weekend.  We have said to the organizers of Lenzerheide, of the last WC, to give a trip to Canada as a prize for them.  We give them some logies. We did it also in the last Worldchampionship here in Switserland in Château d’aix.  Thirthy people came to us. So, bring the volunteers to Quebec and we have fun!
  • Yves: It’s good for our volunteers the meet people from outside. They change about experience and so on. That’s fun. In 1992 I started as president of the organizing comitee. We’re friends and we are proud of what we have done. I think that the racers also love Mt. St.-Anne. That’s what I hear from them. Next year will be something special.
  • Is mountainbike popular in Canada?
  • Yves: We had Marie-Hélène Prémont, one of the top in the women’s race. She was from our region in Quebec. We have a big mountainbikeclub with 300 members. It’s popular. Because we had the first mountainbikerace in Mt St-Anne, we have many clubs around.
  • Patrice:The mountainbike market is in a very good shape at the moment. The sales are good. I have a lot of friends in that brand. E-bikes are booming very good. It’s coming up. Every worldcup we do, we have the kids race. This year the maximum entrance for kids from 3 till 7 years old was reached. They need a lot of attention. Kids race need to be an event. All the kids receive medals. It’s a sign that the parents keep mountainbike in their way of living. There is a lot going on. We have a nice bikepark in Mt St.-Anne.
